Privacy policy

MathHelpline.ca provides a tutor directory and website inbox. This policy describes the initial service.

Account information: We store your display name, private email address, password hash, role and verification status. Your login email is not shared with the other participant in a conversation. Your chosen display name is visible. Accounts are for adults aged 18 or older. A parent or guardian should manage an account and enquiries for a younger student.

Tutor profiles: Approved names, teaching details, lesson rates, country, city, selected categories, time zone, availability and photos are public. Optional public email and phone details appear only when the tutor chooses to publish them. A tutor’s qualifications are self-reported; no independent qualification verification is implied.

Conversations: Messages are stored in the database and available to the two participants after sign-in. Messaging is not end-to-end encrypted. Authorized site administrators may review reported conversations for support and moderation; such access is logged. You can block or report another participant. Do not include sensitive health, financial or identity documents in messages.

Notifications: Verification, recovery, listing updates and neutral new-message alerts are sent to your account email. Message text and participant account email addresses are not included in new-message emails. Reply through the website. Email replies go to site support rather than into the conversation.

Payments: Tutor listing inquiries, private quotes, submitted references and independent receipt-verification records are stored for administration. Non-Canadian amounts and payment methods remain private to the requesting tutor and administrators. We do not collect lesson payments or store card details. No Stripe or PayPal checkout is connected.

Providers and storage: Our hosting provider processes application, database, photo and email data. Cloudflare provides DNS, web proxy and HTTPS services. Data may be processed outside your province or country depending on these providers’ infrastructure. We use secure website sessions, access controls and password hashing; no service can guarantee absolute security.

Browser storage: Session cookies keep you signed in. Your shortlist is stored in the current browser and can be cleared through browser settings. No advertising trackers or third-party analytics are included in this installation.

Retention and choices: Conversations remain available while your account remains active. We periodically delete expired recovery/verification tokens, old delivered notification bodies and expired rate-limit records. Account, conversation, moderation and payment records remain until reviewed for deletion, subject to any applicable recordkeeping obligations. Request access, correction, account closure or deletion at [email protected]. Backups may retain older copies until their normal rotation.
